Ms. Monique Schley, a resident of the Tuskegee Housing Authority Fieldcrest
housing community for the past seven years, is truly a dynamic role model.
Monique the mother of four children (Quentavius 10, Tobaris 9, Branden 8, and
Audrey 7) was a proud graduate of Tuskegee University’s class of 2002,
during it’s annual commencement exercises on Mother’s Day. She
received her B.A. degree in English. Monique received her degree while serving
full time as both mother and File Clerk at the Tuskegee V.A. Medical Center.
She now plans to pursue her masters degree in Secondary Education at Auburn
University at Montgomery.
Monique has applied to several local schools for a teaching position. Once a position becomes available, she plans to seek upward mobility by purchasing her own home. But, until that time, she is satisfied with continuing her residence in public housing,
Mrs. Schley stated that during her seven years with the Tuskegee Housing Authority, she never had any problems and can only say nice things about the agency. She is pleased with all the services offered to the residents and she stated, “I appreciate the housing authority allowing my children and me to reside in safe, decent and affordable housing, while I pursued a college education.”
We salute Monique and hope that many others will see the opportunities that
staying in public housing can afford.
