Youth Sports and Other Youth Activities

AAHRA is committed to making a difference in the lives of young people living in public housing. Good grades are required before kids compete in youth sports activities. An emphasis is placed on education, sportsmanship and good citizenship through the youth sports program. To find out more about this program, click the links below. In 1995, AAHRA and the Youth Sports Committee entered into a partnership with the Alabama Sports Festival (ASF). Created in 1982 for the purpose of providing quality Olympic-style athletic competition for the citizens of Alabama, they bring expertise in tournament organization, fund-raising and a similar philosophy in reaching the youth of our state. The ASF has over 7,000 Alabama athletes (including the physically handicapped and seniors) compete in over 20 sports during their annual games. This non-profit organization has been recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as being a program of excellence that encourages youth to maintain a healthy and wholesome lifestyle. The ASF is committed to reversing youth crime and violence, insists on academic greatness, promotes athletic achievement and participates in the war on drugs. These priorities mirror the initiatives set out by the AAHRA Youth Sports Committee. With the wealth of skills and talents assembled, we look forward to meeting the challenges that our youth face today!

A special thanks to all of our sponsors through the years that have made this program and these tournaments successful. A special thank you to Alabama Power Company who has been there for us since the beginning!
